Brief History

Good Neighbor Free Medical Clinic of Beaufort was established in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to provide free primary health care services for low-income, uninsured adult residents of Beaufort County, South Carolina. Its founders included volunteer health professionals, church leaders and concerned citizens who opened a small clinic in downtown Beaufort in early 2009. Later that year the Clinic outgrew this space and moved to larger quarters on nearby Lady’s Island to serve more patients and provide additional services. More recently the Clinic moved to its current location on Ribault Road across from Beaufort Memorial Hospital. The Clinic continues to offer high quality medical care free of charge to Beaufort County’s uninsured adults ages 18-65 whose household incomes are no more than 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. The Clinic uses an efficient and effective team approach to deliver primary medical care, prescription assistance, health education and specialty referrals.

From its start, Good Neighbor Free Medical Clinic (DBA) Good Neighbor Medical Clinic has had the support of committed volunteers, churches, the local hospital, community agencies, foundations and individuals. We are fortunate that they continue to support the clinic. The Clinic’s Board includes professionals who perform important services for the Clinic in addition to their duties as directors. The Board includes members of the clergy, a hospital executive, a physician, a pharmacist, registered nurses and community volunteers with experience in finance, law, fundraising and human resources.
