On August 31st, Dr. Westley Byrne retired as Executive Director of the Good Neighbor Free Medical Clinic. She had served the Clinic over the course of three years, first as a member of the board, and then as Operations Director and Executive Director. During her tenure, the Clinic and she accomplished a number of important milestones:
• Gained certification from the South Carolina Free Clinic Association
• Recruited a Nurse Practitioner to provide afternoon and evening clinic appointments
• Identified and hired a highly qualified individual to serve as Clinical Director
• Increased individual donations to the Clinic from $14,130 in 2013 to $51,500 in 2015
• Qualified Clinic to become a funded agency of the Low Country United Way
• Obtained federally funded professional liability coverage for the Clinic’s medical providers
Over her term of service to the Clinic, Dr. Byrne gave much more of her time and energy and care to furthering the reach of the Clinic and raising its visibility in the Beaufort community than her job description required. Dr. John Gray, Medical Director, acknowledged her contributions saying, “We are grateful for her service in many capacities at the Clinic over the years, especially her devotion to our patients and families.”
In her retirement, Dr. Byrne intends to spend much more time in her favorite capacity, that of grandmother to four grandchildren.
