Dr. John Newman was born and raised in Maryland. He had an active childhood, always encouraged by his four siblings and attentive parents. He attended Washington & Lee University and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate residency at West Virginia University and achieved his fellowship training in Gastroenterology back home at the University of Maryland. His career after training was in beautiful Annapolis, Maryland.

When not playing golf or sailing down the Beaufort river, he can be found spending time with his lovely wife, Pam, and two daughters or gardening around the house. He reads more books for entertainment now in retirement but at just a slow pace as the medical journals call for.

Volunteering at the clinic and spending time with patients provides opportunities to help those in need and freshen John’s medical studies. He enjoys the camaraderie of the many other volunteers. Working with members of the GNMC Board has developed his community spirit and bonding with the insightful fellow members.
